The Federal Ministry of Education has commenced computer-based tests (CBT) to appoint new principals for Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria.

According to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, the selection process is crucial for filling leadership roles, with 293 candidates shortlisted.

The CBT aims to ensure fairness and competence in choosing principals.

Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary School Education, stated that the exams are necessary to replace principals who have completed their six-year tenures.
The assessments are being held at SASCON International School in Abuja.

The initiative is part of efforts to improve leadership standards in the nation’s secondary schools. Abdulkadir urged candidates to adhere to guidelines for a smooth process.

Udu Ali Lawrence, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), noted the importance of evaluating candidates’ leadership, management, and teaching competencies to maintain global standards in school leadership.

In related news, the ministry has denounced a fraudulent document claiming Federal Unity College fees are ₦386,000, clarifying that the highest fee paid by new students is ₦100,000, while tuition remains free.
