36 bag first class as Crawford varsity graduates 458
Crawford University, located in Igbesa, Ogun State, will confer degrees on 458 students during its 16th convocation ceremony on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone for the institution.
Of the graduating students, 36 bagged First Class, 171 Second Class Upper, 174 Second Class Lower, and 42 Third Class across both undergraduate and part-time programmes. Additionally, 31 students will be awarded postgraduate degrees.
Addressing reporters at a a pre-convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Reuben Jiya Kolo, praised the graduating class for their hardwork and dedication.
“We are proud of each student and their commitment to academic excellence,” he said. “Their success reflects our mission to nurture outstanding scholars prepared to make a difference in the society.” Afolabi Abisola Wuraola, of the department of Computer Science emerged the best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.92.
The convocation ceremony will also feature a lecture by Prof Akan Williams, former acting Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, titled “Petroleum crisis and the need for alternative energy,” shedding light on critical issues in the petroleum and energy sectors.
Eminent individuals, including Prof Jerry Gana, Toyin Ajayi, and Humphrey Okposo, will be honoured at the ceremony in recognition of their contributions to academic, architecture, and community development,
Emphasising the importance of the convocation ceremony, Kolo expressed hope for the graduating students, and encouraged them to embrace the journey ahead.
“This convocation is not just a ceremony, but an induction into a new chapter. “We urge the graduands to step forward with confidence, courage, and hope for a brighter future.”
Addressing concerns about student safety, Prof. Kolo assured that the institution has been working closely with security agencies to secure the institution and provide a conducive learning environment.
