A former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Labaran Maku and former Minister of State for Works, Adedayo Adeyeye, have enjoined Nigerian students to be focused, reassuring that their future is bright.

They noted that with Nigerian students providing solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the country, they would change the story of Africa. They spoke at the valedictory service and inauguration of David Opeyemi Adeyeye Hall of Crown Heights College, Ojoo, Ibadan.

Maku, who was the guest speaker, said although there are many depressing stories about the country, as students, they must be ready to solve the problems and tackle the challenges.

Despite the feeling of discouragement in the country, Maku reassured that the future is bright. He said: ‘’No condition is permanent; there is no reason for depressing stories. Challenges are opportunities for greatness. We can still overtake China and Europe. In 1978, China was not reckoned with in the world; but one person sat down to engender the vision that made the country number two in the world. Nigerian youths are running to the United States and Europe, but Chinese and Indians are running to Nigeria. They said there is nowhere in Europe one can create wealth as fast as Nigeria.”

He, however, reminded that education alone would not take the students anywhere, emphasising sound character and hardwork. On his part, Adeyeye urged the students to remain focused, saying this is imperative to remain relevant.

The school proprietor, Gbadebo Adeyeye, congratulated the students on the successful completion of their secondary education, and thanked parents and guardians for investing in the future of their wards.
