Firm hosts competition to instil values, skills in students
Shape-A-Child, a social impact organisation dedicated to empowering children, recently concluded its nine-week values-based Jigsaw Puzzle Club competition.
The initiative was aimed at equipping children with critical thinking and decision-making skills in response to societal challenges.
At the grand finale of the competition, which held at St. George’s Primary School, Falomo, Lagos, founder of the organisation, Izehi Anuge, said the programme is focused on addressing issues like drug abuse and cultism through experiential learning.
“We believe that instilling solid, ethical values is crucial to helping children navigate life’s complexities,” Anuge stated.
She also emphasised the use of puzzles as metaphors, helping children to see that “just as each puzzle piece must fit together, they must learn to make choices aligned with their values.
Over 200 students drawn from 36 schools participated in the competition.
Anuge noted that many students initially struggled to link values with everyday challenges, but later embraced concepts like personal boundaries. “This competition fosters collaboration and critical thinking, teaching that every decision shapes their future,” she added.
“By embedding values in engaging activities, we empower a generation capable of making ethical decisions,” she concluded.
Head Teacher, St. George’s Primary School, Mrs Sherifat Adebayo, said the competition helps in curbing excessive play, and puts the children in check.
