The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter of the Gombe State University has called off its strike action after reaching an agreement with the state government.
The members of ASUU, Gombe varsity branch had brought all academic activities to a halt after embarking on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike on September 11, 2024.
The lecturers union, however, had a series of meetings with the Gombe State Government and both parties reached an agreement.
The government reportedly approved the sum of N947 million at the executive council meeting presided over by Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday, October 17, with the money aimed at offsetting staff promotions and earned academic allowances (EAA).
Following the agreement between the Gombe State Government and the lecturers’ union, academic activities are set to resume at the university in few days.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Yahaya, his deputy Manassah Jatau, was confident that the agreement reached between the government and ASUU would lead to greater synergy for an uninterrupted teaching and learning in Gombe State University.
