Governor Lawal pledges unwavering support to Federal University Gusau
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting the Federal University Gusau (FUG). The Governor made this commitment during a courtesy visit by the university’s Governing Council, led by its Pro-Chancellor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Sani Isa, to the Government House in Gusau.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Governing Council expressed gratitude for the state government’s continuous assistance, which has significantly contributed to the university’s development.
Governor Lawal, in his response, stressed the importance of collaboration between the state government and the institution to drive educational progress. He highlighted several initiatives aimed at strengthening the university’s capacity to serve its students and the Zamfara community.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Federal University Gusau Governing Council for this visit,” the Governor said. “Such gatherings provide an opportunity to reflect and plan ways to enhance our educational sector for the benefit of our people.”
The Governor welcomed the news of the university’s plans to launch a Medicine programme and assured that the state government is prepared to support this expansion. “We are currently upgrading Yeriman Bakura Teaching Hospital into a fully equipped teaching hospital with state-of-the-art medical equipment, ensuring it is ready to serve as a teaching hospital for your programme,” he stated.
Governor Lawal also disclosed plans to address challenges related to land compensation and student accommodation. “We are negotiating to acquire land nearby to build hostels for students,” he said, adding that his administration is actively reviewing the status of legacy projects initiated by previous governments to ensure their completion.
The Pro-Chancellor praised Governor Lawal for his longstanding commitment to the university, even before assuming office, noting the numerous projects he had championed to improve the institution’s infrastructure and operations.
This renewed partnership underscores Governor Lawal’s vision of prioritising education as a cornerstone of Zamfara’s development, reflecting his administration’s broader agenda to empower the state’s future through knowledge and innovation.
