In a heartfelt tribute to their formative years, the Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS Ojo)Class of 1994 has made a significant contribution to their alma mater, by building a brand new multi-million recreational arena for present and future students of NNSS Ojo.

The arena contains badminton, volleyball, basketball and lawn tennis courts, it also includes ground chess, ludo and hopscotch games.

The grand unveiling occurred on Friday, September 27, 2024, and was commissioned by Rear Admiral Mustapha Hassan, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) West to serve as a giveback to their alma mater in commemorating their 30th anniversary of Graduating from the School.

This initiative stems from the Executive Committee of the Class of 1994’s commitment to give back to the institution that moulded their character and instilled the values of discipline and hard work. Last year, a delegation led by Mr. Oladipo Olaosebikan, the class president, alongside Treasurer Mrs. Modupe Boardman-Ejikeme and Public Relations Officer Mr. Gbenga Abulude, visited the school to explore ways to make a meaningful impact. After thorough discussions and assessments of the school’s needs, the Executive Committee unanimously decided that a recreational arena would be an invaluable asset to promote a balanced education and foster essential life skills among students.

To spearhead the project, the Executive Committee appointed Dr. Olutoyin Abitoye as Chairman of the Project Committee, with Architect Mrs. Oyebola Amodu serving as his vice chairperson & project lead. Their leadership ensured that the recreational arena was designed to meet the needs of the students, providing a space for sports, social activities, and overall personal development.

The commissioning ceremony drew a crowd of notable military dignitaries and several alumni from the Class of 1994, including many who travelled from various parts of the country and from abroad, to celebrate this milestone event. The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia and excitement as the 1994 alumni reminisced about their school days and the lasting friendships forged during that time.

A highlight of the day was a novelty tennis match featuring Air Vice Marshal AI Amodu, who triumphed in the friendly tournament that marked the opening of the new arena. The joyful sounds of students engaging in various sports activities filled the air, showcasing the immediate impact of the recreational space on the school community.

The successful event celebrated the 30-year journey of the Class of 1994 and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders. As the recreational arena stands ready for use, it symbolizes the enduring bond between the alumni and their beloved school, ensuring that the spirit of camaraderie and excellence continues to thrive at NNSS.

As students relish their new facility, the Class of 1994 has set a remarkable example of giving back, inspiring future classes to follow in their footsteps and contribute to the legacy of their cherished institution.
