Old students rally wealthy Nigerians on philanthropy

Apata Community Grammar School, Ibadan Alumni Association [ACGSIAA], has urged wealthy Nigerians to give back to the society and support indigent families to make life better for all.

They made the call during a visit to His Heritage Orphanage Home at Oluyole Extension, Ibadan, where they donated food items and other gifts as part of activities commemorating their 44th founder’s day celebration.

The National President of the association, Adewunmi Bashorun, said the presentation was a token of their love to the children.

Bashorun added that the gesture was aimed at giving back to the community where they grew up.

Bashorun used the occasion to solicit private sector support in the task to improve the sector, noting that government alone cannot fund education.

He said: “The rich needs to give back. They need to pay their taxes and reach out to the less privileged. They need to make deliberate efforts to create a better society so that the poor can be lifted from their poverty state.”

A member of the group, Dr Adekoya Owosina, also awarded scholarships to two of the children interested in studying agriculture.

Responding, Mrs Abiola Afolayan, who is the Administrative Officer of the home, lauded the gesture, saying items donated would be put to good use.
