Groups harp on right of the Palestinian people to self-determination

Despite numerous United Nations resolutions to endorse the creation of an independent Palestine state, the Palestinian people are still denied the right to self-determination.

Despite numerous United Nations resolutions to endorse the creation of an independent Palestine state, the Palestinian people are still denied the right to self-determination.

Speaking during a symposium to re-assess and call the attention of the world to the plight of the oppressed people in Palestine, coalition of civil society organisation join other activists across the globe to commemorate 2019 Human Right Day themed ‘The Inalienable rights of Palestinians to Statehood’

The organizations includes International Institute for Human Heritage (IIHH), Centre for Policy intervention in Africa (CEPIA) Alliance of Nigeria Students Adainst Nei-Liberal Attacks ANSA) and others.

The group stated that, the Palestinian people were still denied their right and they continued to suffer from discrimination, oppression and injustice.

Noting that the occupying Power deny the Palestinian people their basic and fundamental rights which include illegal colonial settlements and continued restrictions on the freedom of movement, and the detainment of prisoners.

The convener/ Director International Institute of Human Heritage (IIHH), Abdul Rasheed Atta said that the Israel’s violation of the United Nations Charter and its disrespect for basic human rights and laws is barbaric.

“The violation exhibited and display even till date by Israel and his ally’s is beyond something solid action should not have been taking against Israelis”

He said that the fight of Palestine should not be regard as religious right but a global apartheid.

“The issue in Palestine is never religious issue, it is all about humanity. The challenges in Palestine are not religious but purely humanity. Most of those that are dehumanize in Palestine are not Muslim nor Christians”

Journalist/Trade Unionists (NLC), Comrade Owei Lakemfa said human right is a basic right and every human is entitle to it. “Every human being must have a homeland. We are Nigerians, so Palestinians must also have a country they call their own, it is a basic thing.

“Palestinians don’t have right to movement, they cannot move from places without being authorize to. They do not have right to employment, to be human, to family, to residence. Their houses can be demolished and taken over by other people, that is inhuman that has ever happen to humanity”.

Pioneer President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Dr. Hassan Sunmonu said an injury to one is an injury to all to all.
“We are clamoring for the restructuring of the united nation because any organization that has double standard will not have the moral authority to justify is name as a world organization as long as they continue to practice double standard because justice has no favorite”.

Ihsan Adel from Rahr University in Germany said every country in the world is protected by rules in the international law.

“There is violation in everywhere in Palestine including west bank, Jerusalem, Gaza and even inside Israel. They are suffering from severe human right violations.

“ Palestinian people have the right to self determination, it is the responsibility of every country to protect their right by spreading the news for the violation to come to an end”

He commended the United Nation on the great job regarding the situation in Palestine although there is a bigger problem. “We have tons of resolution but non could curtail the problem because it is base on politic. “The situation in Palestine is considered as a treat to international peace and security and for that all the state in United Nation security council have to do something regarding the situation before it got worse.
