Cholera outbreak leaves nine dead in Katsina
At least nine people have lost their lives following an outbreak of cholera in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The outbreak, which is said to have occurred in four communities, has also left several persons hospitalised.
Executive Chairman of the council area, Usman Nadalo, made this known while speaking with newsmen yesterday.
Nadalo said he had since informed the state Ministry of Health that necessary action would be taken to check the spread of the disease.
He also said health officials had been dispatched to the affected communities so that they could help those affected by the disease, as well as sensitise residents on precautions to take.
Following the outbreak, the House of Representatives member representing Sandamu/Daura, Hon. Aminu Jamo, has donated cash and food items to the communities affected by the disease.
Similarly, the state House of Assembly member representing Sandamu, Hon. Nasiru Yahaya, has also donated cash and food items to the affected communities.
Both men, who visited the communities yesterday, prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased persons, even as they called on residents to avoid drinking contaminated water.
