Firm advances new model to address aged care crisis
The Managing Director, St. Michael Care Services Limited, Dr Fadekemi Ogunleye, has advanced the need to key into Rowe and Kahn’s model of successful aging in the country, which provides older people with medical care and interactions.
Ogunleye, who advised at the launching ceremony of St. Michaels Care Services Limited, themed ‘Old is Golden’ in Lagos, said as the world is rapidly aging with unusual health hazards for old people of age 60 and above, it has become necessary to protect them with requisite medical provision.
“According to Rowe and Khan, successful aging means having high cognitive and physical abilities in old age, while also experiencing life with family and friends. However, with a lot of children migrating overseas for greener pastures, a lot of parents are now living solitary lives devoid of the normal care they are expected to enjoy and are exposed to health hazards,” she said.
The Chairman, St. Michael’s Care Foundation Services Limited, Dr Osaren Emokpae, said the unfortunate situation of abandoning parents to face the rigours of old age without adequate care has given birth to the foundation, which renders care to the aged. The Chairman of the Day, Mr Femi Adesina, said old age which is supposed to be golden has become a burden due to lack of requisite care.
