A non-governmental organisation, Global Blessing Incorporated, has organised a one-day free medical outreach for the elderly in Benin City, Edo State.

The foundation’s founders, Mr David Woghiren and Mrs Esther Ngozi Woghiren are United States-based Nigerians who have been carrying out humanitarian work for more than ten years.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Nigeria Coordinator of the foundation, Dr Emmanuel Oriabure, said the medical outreach brought medical personnel from the University of Benin (Uniben) and University Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City to offer professional services to the elderly, and provided participants with general checkups, free reading glasses, free drugs, eye and dental care.

The Benin City Coordinator, Isibhakhomen Oriabure, said this year’s team focused on the elderly who cannot care for their needs and health conditions.

Among the items given to the participants are medical equipment like eyeglasses, free polish and scaling (dental care), wheelchairs, drugs, and walking aids.

The medical professionals urged the participants to desist from self-medication and also enlightened them on how to take proper care of their health condition and the need to ensure qualified medical personnel are consulted for proper medical treatment.
