Kefas pledges to upgrade PHCs in Taraba
Taraba State governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, said his administration plans to upgrade primary healthcare centers in the state.
He said the equipped health facilities will better handle common health challenges, providing a foundation for improved healthcare delivery at the community level.
Kefas disclosed that more health workers will be recruited and deployed to various centers throughout the state.
He made this known on Saturday in Jalingo, through his deputy, Aminu Abdullahi Alkali during the flag-off of the distribution of motorcycle and Solar Direct Drive (SDD) units supplied by GAVI/UNICEF.
“These and other state government interventions will create a better environment for quality primary healthcare service delivery,” Kefas said.
He said the focus on primary care includes expanding immunization efforts for children and pregnant women, a measure expected to significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
The government’s commitment to primary healthcare is evident not only in infrastructure investments but also in resource allocation aimed at improving everyday health services for residents.
“Bringing high-quality healthcare closer to the people will have a transformative impact on the health sector,” Dr. Kefas added.
He appealed to users of the newly distributed motorcycles and solar direct drive (SDD) units to maintain the equipment responsibly, ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the state.
The state commissioner for health, Dr Godiya Boma, said the task force committee on immunization and Primary Health Care, under the Deputy governor, is doing well in reviving the healthcare sector of the state.
