Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), says it has commenced the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.

The Executive Secretary (ES) of the agency, Kim Bot, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos.

Bot, who is a pharmacist, said the agency has been able to locally manufacture five pharmaceutical products.

The executive secretary listed the pharmaceuticals to include cough syrup, an antacid (Mist. Magnesium Trisilicate) for oral use, methylated spirit, an antiseptic for external use, and sanitizers for cleaning surfaces.

He stated that the efficacy of the products had been tested and superb results were gotten.

Bot said modalities were put in place to get the products registered and certified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The executive secretary further said that the agency would commence full scale production as soon as they get NAFDAC registration and certification.

According to him, most of the products used in manufacturing them were sourced locally, as only one was imported.

He stated that the efforts would bring about accessibility and affordability.

Bot pointed out that the agency’s pharmaceutical-grade state-of-the-art warehouse portrays the government’s unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and efficiency in the pharmaceutical supply chain.

He said that the warehouse has advanced temperature control systems and cutting-edge inventory management technology.

Bot added that stringent security measures would play a crucial role in ensuring that life-saving medications reach patients in perfect condition and in time.

“This warehouse serves as a vital link between pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare providers, ultimately benefiting countless patients who rely on these essential medicines,” he said.

He commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for prioritizing the healthcare of people on the Plateau to ensure they get the best of health care.

NAN reports that the agency was created to address the challenge associated with access, quality, availability, and affordability of drugs in government health facilities in the state.
