Lawmaker, representing Ondo East/West federal constituency in the green chamber of the National Assembly, Abiola Makinde and his wife, Dr Rhoda Oluwatoberu Makinde, have launched a free open market scheme in Ondo.

The initiative, which is the distribution of foodstuffs, is targeted at the aged, weak, vulnerable and other less privileged.

According to Makinde, the unique initiative is established to give them direct market shopping experience free of charge and to cushion the effect of economic situation in the country at the moment.

During the programme held at Adetunji Event Hall, Ondo, the ranking House of Reps member who is also the Atunluse of Ondo Kingdom, said the programme is to complement the series of his food palliatives programme in a unique way and to bond firmly with his people.

In her remark, Dr. Rhoda Oluwatoberu Makinde, who is the founder of ‘Dr. Rhoda Oluwatoberu Makinde Initiative’ (DROMI), explained that her purpose of the expended millions of naira in support of her husband to procure different food and other essential needs for direct shopping free of charge was borne out of her unhindered giving spirit as well as her sincere love for the less-privileged and Ondo women in general.

Different speakers at the event in their goodwill messages, commended Makinde and his wife for always identifying with the masses, most especially, the good people of Ondo Kingdom.

The beneficiaries in their numbers could not hide their joy as shown in their open expression of love for what they described as the God sent couple to Ondo people.

Some of the foodstuffs items shared freely at the open market include rice, beans, garri, pantries, vegetables, vegetable oil, groundnut oil, palm oil, plantains, fruits, noodles, salt, seasoning, eggs and many more.
