The Medicus Foundation, an initiative of the Medilag Alumni Class of 2003, has presented scholarship awards to three outstanding medical students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The ceremony, which took place recently in the new Boardroom of the College, was in continuation of the foundation’s support to the college.
Speaking during the event, the Coordinator of the Medicus Foundation, Dr. Victor Fakeye, congratulated the Provost on his well-deserved appointment, praising the significant transformation of the college.
He explained that Medicus Foundation was born out of the desire to give back to their alma mater in appreciation of the quality education they acquired almost at no cost.
Fakeye disclosed that he enjoyed Shell scholarship as a student, adding that it went a long way to relieve his financial burden.
He further explained that the foundation’s scholarship award began in 2020 with three beneficiaries, adding that due to the harsh economic situation, the cash award has been reviewed upward from N150,000 to N250,000 per beneficiary yearly.
Fakeye appreciated the continued support of the Provost and the entire management of the college, expressing optimism for a long-lasting partnership.
In his remarks, the Provost of the College, Prof. Ademola Oremosu, expressed gratitude to Fakeye and his set for their continuous support to the college.
In appreciation of the foundation’s gesture, the Provost presented a gift to the class on behalf of the management.
The Director of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Olufemi Fasanmade, commended the students for their efforts and encouraged them to be beacons of hope to others.
He emphasised the importance of showing appreciation for the opportunities provided by the country and the college.
This year’s awardees, Odike Ikechukwu Clement, Israel Barinua Ngbor, and Onoh Ebube Chinweuba, joined the ranks of 11 previous beneficiaries, bringing the total number of the foundation’s scholars to 14.
