The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, is set to collaborate with the Egyptian government in the critical areas of water resources, food production and sanitation, for the overall benefit of all Nigerians.

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, disclosed this, on Wednesday, when the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Moustafa Awad, visited his office in Abuja.

The ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Imuetinyan Funmi, stated, yesterday, that as part of the visit, copies of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and an invitation to Cairo Water Week were presented to the minister.

Utsev underscored the determination of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to its ‘Food Security Mandate’ and ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, recognising the pivotal role of water resources in achieving food security and overall economic stability.

The minister also highlighted the ministry’s inclusion of ‘Sanitation’ in its name and expressed optimism about advancements in this critical area.

He accepted an invitation to the Egyptian water week, scheduled for October 29, 2023, in Pharaoh’s country.

In his remarks during the meeting, the Minister of State, Bello Goronyo, emphasised the vast potential for mutual benefits in this collaboration, especially in ensuring food security, given the extensive land areas of both countries.

Awad reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to partnering Nigeria in various aspects of water management, flood management, irrigation, crop cultivation and sanitation.

He also highlighted ongoing discussions regarding Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) with Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) and other stakeholders, with focus on areas such as animal husbandry and food production.
