Global IT outage hits banks, airlines, others

A mass IT outage has occurred, affecting banks, airports, media outlets, hospitals and other major international institutions across the world.

The major IT outage has crippled operations in every industry and impacted customers with ignificant disruption to some Microsoft services

911 services have reportedly been disrupted in several states in the United States (U.S) while services at the London Stock Exchange has also been disrupted.

Sky News is off air while there are reports that the issue relates to a problem at the global cybersecurity firm, Crowdstrike.

According to global media agency, AFP Air France said Friday it was facing IT-related disruption on several of its services, but not at the Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports serving Olympics host city Paris.

The flag-carrier’s flights already in the air were not affected either, an Air France spokesman said, without specifying which others had been affected.

Major airlines across the world were grounding flights Friday, including in the United States, where the Federal Aviation Administration cited “communications issues” as the reason.

Air France’s website and app were working normally, but calls to its customer relations service could be disrupted, it said.

“The company’s IT teams are working hard to resolve the situation as soon as possible,” it added.

The website of state-controlled ADP group, which runs the main Charles de Gaulle airport and its cross-town rival Orly, showed aeroplanes landing and departing from both sites as usual.

Paris is revving up for the Olympics, which are to start on July 26 and run to August 11.

The city’s airport workers this week called off a strike that would have disrupted travel just ahead of the games, after reaching an eleventh-hour deal on bonuses with management.
