As part of efforts to empower women to start up Spa businesses by creating affordable space for clients to unburden stress, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Organique SPA, Mrs. Ramat Alli Balogun, recently organised a five-day master class for some women in Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, she noted that there were a lot that had not been harnessed in the SPA sector.
“We need more players in this sector. Nigerians need the SPA culture to detox, clear stress, mental and emotional health. Everybody needs a massage to rejuvenate spirit, soul and body,” she said.

Balogun disclosed that the training was to empower women and anyone who wants to be a massage therapist, adding that it also provided opportunity for participants to learn, network and collaborate with others.

“Having spent over 16 years in the SPA business, we have built a reputation as one of the best spas in this area. We teach and offer a wide range of services, including massages, facials, waxing, skin care, pedicure, body scrub, V steam, deadlock and more,” she said.

Balogun added that Organique SPA was concerned about people leaving the shores of the country Nigeria and has therefore provided employment opportunities to many people and built human capacities.

“We also help trainees to establish their own businesses. In addition to their spa services, they also offer a number of other services that help their clients relax and rejuvenate. They network with our staff and learn about the day-to-day operations of a successful business,” she added.

Speaking on the training, a participant, Wuraola Adenike Adeyemi of Meiguo-Gold, said: “I have learnt that you can only rub slightly across the popliteal fossa to avoid a crisis. I was taught that one must always start a massage from the right part of the body, and that all parts of the body are connected together.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Estheticmarketer, Okey Esther, who also participated in the training, said: “I never thought I would learn massaging skills in just three days but I did because I was trained by a passionate coach. The facilitator simplified the whole massage process and she gave us full access to practice what we were taught. Even before the end of the training, I got a client who bought my natural skin products and even booked a massage session with me.”

“My experience in the massage training as a massage therapist has exposed me to real life lessons on emotional intelligence – the ability, capacity or skill to perceive, assess and manage the emotions of oneself, others and groups. The training allowed me to know how to use my emotional intelligence wisely.”

Another beneficiary, who pleaded anonymity, said she learnt about human anatomy and different massage points.

“There is no need to put heavy pressure or massage the spinal cord and other sensitive areas of the body while massaging,” she stressed.
