Group advocates for elimination of Violence against women and girls

Concerned about inequality and discrimination against women and girls which has become a global pandemic with one in three women experiencing physical or sexual violence worldwide, the United Nations and NGOs are drawing attention to this extreme violation of Human Rights.

National President, Soroptimist International Nigeria Association, (SINA) Mrs. Abiola Agusto Agoro while speaking at the 16 days activism against gender-based violence (GBV) held in Lagos, appealed to women and girls to speak out when faced with abuse or life- threatening situations and call out for help.

She also called for commitments by politicians and stakeholders stand with them to end violence against women and girls. Agusto Agoro said, “No girl or woman should die in silence or stay in toxic relationship.”

Immediate Past National President and former Trustee, Tina Iyabo Akerele -lgboin emphasised that “Education is the best inheritance for children and youths to maintain saner society and improve national development.

“In line with the 3Es – Education, Empowerment and Enlightenment, SINA has empowered girls and women, schools, communities from various projects over the years across the six geo-political areas,” Akerele lgboin noted.

SINA council member, Chinwe Ezenwa-Mba, while speaking on some of their projects, achievements, collaboration and partnerships said that in five states, hearing aids were given to persons with hearing impairments including different vocational skills training.
