With ‘Big sister’ WIMBIZ mentors school girls

In its mentorship drive, the Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) through its Big Sister programme recently equipped girls at the Lagos City senior college, Yaba Lagos with life skills to develop their confidence and leadership capacity.

In its mentorship drive, the Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) through its Big Sister programme recently equipped girls at the Lagos City senior college, Yaba Lagos with life skills to develop their confidence and leadership capacity.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairperson of the Big Sisters programme, Mrs. Chinedu Omafodezi, said the organisation purposefully set out to teach students what they need to know to cope through their post- secondary education, while bringing down complex topics to their level.

The girls were taken through session on career, budgeting, personal hygiene and dealing with peer pressure and promoting physical exercise.

The first session led by Funmi Ogutuga, titled ‘Building Self-confidence and interpersonal relationship’ taught the girls practical steps to journaling, Daily affirmation and exercising which helps to boost self-confidence. She also emphasized the need for having set goals and getting a hobby.

Another session anchored by Mrs. Ijeoma Taylaur stressed on the need to plan and aspire to set quantifiable and realistic goals which is the power of decision making and working towards made up decisions.

Executive director, WIMBIZ, Mrs. Omowunmi Akingbohungbe announced the certification of WIMBIZ membership of all female students in attendance and awarded certificates to this effect.

In appreciation, Principal of Lagos City senior college, Mr. Hassan Abiodun expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the group for the opportunity to empower the young girls in the school. He therefore urged the group to include male students in the training and empowerment programmes that the girls are exposed to, as it is instrumental in shaping a future where there is a balance in the rate of success in the society.
