Corporate strategist and governance expert, Tonya Osato Lawani, has been appointed as a Non-Executive Board Member of Iron Capital Asset Management, in a move aimed at strengthening the firm’s governance framework and supporting its long-term growth strategy.
Lawani’s appointment was announced alongside three other new board members, Oswald Osaretin Guobadia, Olatunde Oyewole and Titilola Aworanti-Ekugo, as the asset management firm moves to deepen the expertise and strategic capacity of its board.
The appointments are expected to bring broader commercial experience, independent oversight and specialised expertise to the firm’s governance structure as it seeks to strengthen its investment platform and enhance value for clients.
For Lawani, the new role adds another significant board appointment to a career spanning more than two decades across corporate leadership, business development and governance.
She is the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Seal Group, a diversified business conglomerate with interests spanning advertising, hospitality, retail, print media, marketing, manufacturing and general merchandising.
In announcing the new appointments, Iron Capital Asset Management described governance as “the foundation” of its work, stressing the importance of expertise across regulation, technology and enterprise.
The firm said its governance approach is anchored on “precision in oversight” and “certainty in execution”, combining African solutions with global expertise.
Lawani is expected to contribute her experience in corporate strategy, board leadership and business development, while providing independent oversight and strategic insight to the firm’s operations.
With more than 20 years of professional experience, she has built a reputation around ethical leadership, inclusive economic growth and capacity development within Africa’s business ecosystem.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an MBA from the Metropolitan School of Business and Management in the United Kingdom. She is also an alumna of the Lagos Business School Owner Manager Programme and has completed executive leadership programmes at Harvard University.
Her leadership experience also includes engagement with emerging entrepreneurs. She presented her first leadership paper to youth entrepreneurs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has continued to advocate for stronger governance and responsible leadership across the public and private sectors.
A member of the Chartered Institute of Directors, Lawani serves on several corporate boards, where she promotes transparency, accountability and sustainable business practices.
Her appointment to Iron Capital Asset Management follows her recent appointment as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the board of NASCON Allied Industries Plc, a member of the Dangote Group.
The latest appointment further underscores Lawani’s growing influence in corporate governance and institutional leadership, particularly at a time when strong board oversight is increasingly important to the resilience and credibility of financial institutions.
For Iron Capital Asset Management, the appointment is part of a broader effort to build a board with diverse commercial perspectives and strengthen institutional governance.
The firm said the new board composition would support its objective of building a resilient, trusted and high-performing asset management platform capable of delivering disciplined investment solutions and long-term value to clients.
Lawani’s dual leadership responsibilities at Seal Group and her expanding board portfolio position her at the intersection of entrepreneurship, corporate governance and strategic business leadership areas increasingly critical to Africa’s evolving investment and financial services landscape.
Iron Capital Asset Management operates with an African market perspective and global expertise, with governance, oversight and disciplined execution positioned as key pillars of its investment approach.
Seal Group, under Lawani’s leadership, is a diversified conglomerate with interests across advertising, hospitality, retail, print media, marketing, manufacturing and general merchandising.
