
Stakeholders have said that gender parity in Technology will drive innovation, create an equitable and prosperous future in the sector and revolutionise businesses with inclusivity of digital transformation, championed by women.

This was said at the 2024 Women In Management and Leadership (WIMLEAD) conference, themed Digital Transformation and Women Leadership, organised by the Nigerian Institute of Management (chartered) (NIM) in Lagos.
President and Chairman, NIM, Dr. Christiana Atako, said that technology is a distinguishing feature for modern-day women leaders, while adding that the selected theme for the conference is crucial for human development.
She noted that digital transformation can create new opportunities for women’s leadership and empowerment, while inclusive leadership and diverse perspectives can enhance digital transformation strategies.
“Digital transformation and women’s leadership are crucial aspects of human development that can drive significant positive change in organisations and society.”

According to Atako, women are underrepresented in tech and leadership positions, face bias and stereotypes, have little or no access to mentorship and support. For this reason, Atako emphasises the relevance of organisations understanding the benefits and challenges of digital transformation in order to develop effective strategies to support women’s leadership in digital transformation and create an inclusive, innovative environment.
CEO and Co-founder, HerVest, Solape Akinpelu stated that women are at vantage positions to improve tech solutions. “Women need to be in tech to bolster and make robust decisions, encourage better representation to make better products.
Akinpelu revealed that digital transformation will contribute $100 trillion to world economy by 2025, hence, an opportunity for women to advance in their tech career.
She explained that digital transformation is the economical ticket to cost reduction, many businesses have been looking out for. “Digital transformation reduces cost and revolutionises operation, develop new products or services with automated data capture, discovering unmet customer needs, aid market expansion, track product analytics and improve efficiency,” she said.
Executive director, Trantor IT Infrastructure Services Limited, Melanie Ayoola revealed that managerial positions occupied by women within the IT sector is approximately 31 per cent.
