The event will be hosted by the Eze Cyril Ibe Centre for Igbo Renaissance.

The festival was initiated by the founder of the university, Prof. Gregory Ibe, in pursuit of his vision to revive, promote and celebrate the vital ethos of the rich Ndigbo traditions.

According to GUU Registrar, Mr Vincent Maliki, the Day is a platform for the resuscitation, preservation and celebration of unique features of Igbo cultural heritage by members of the university community.

He urged the general public to attend this year’s celebration at the Dr Goodluck Jonathan Auditorium.

Also speaking on the event, Deputy Registrar, Communications and Strategy, Mr Sleek Ogwo, said: “All pro-Igbo persons and groups are invited in their beautiful cultural attires to participate in the fiesta, which theme is ‘Ichota Nso Ala Ndigbo’ (i.e., identifying what amounts to abominable behaviours in Igboland.)

He described the festival as a “colourful event that will showcase the costumes, cuisines and rich cultures of Ndigbo.”
