All Progressives Congress (APC) chief in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, yesterday, urged President Bola Tinubu, to ignore those criticising him for suspending tariffs, duties and taxes on the importation of food grains and other products to the country.

Oyintiloye, a former member of Osun State House of Assembly, who represented Obokun State Constituency, said it was either those criticising the policy were benefiting from the economic challenges that the Nigerian masses were facing, or were planning to push the masses against the President by causing unnecessary unrest in the society.

Expressing his position, yesterday, in Osogbo during a chat with journalists, he said Nigerians were highly hopeful and were eager to get dividends of democracy as quickly as possible.

Oyintiloye, however, contended that the global economic crisis, coupled with unavoidable policies introduced by the present administration, were mitigating against Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, but that steps taken in recent time to revamp the economy were beginning to yield desired results.

He said although the tariff suspension might not be the lasting solution to the food crisis in the country, it would cushion the effects of food crisis ravaging the country in short term, adding that the President should be commended for taking the bold step.

Oyintiloye further explained that “for the President to give relief to the consumer on certain products against trade policy on import ban, it showed that his administration was responsible and responsive to the outcry of Nigerians.”
