Chinese community in Lagos launches charity project to combat hunger
Celebrates New Year with cultural exchange
The Chinese community in Lagos, Nigeria, has launched a charity project aimed at supporting the country’s poverty alleviation and hunger reduction efforts.
The “Together Fight Against Hunger” initiative was unveiled during the Chinese New Year celebration in Lagos.
As part of the project, 30 low-income Nigerian families received N100,000 and food items worth N500,000 each.
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Chinese community in Nigeria, while highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and understanding in strengthening the bonds between Nigeria and China.
In her remarks, Consul General Yan Yuqing stressed the deepening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China.
She noted that cooperation in various fields, including trade, infrastructure, education, and technology, has led to the creation of jobs, transfer of skills, and development of critical infrastructure.
Chairman of the HuaXing Arts Troupe in Nigeria, Dr. Eric Ni commended the cultural bridge built between China and Nigeria.
“We consider Nigeria as our second home. This made us share love beyond borders, by supporting Nigerians in different ways.”
Chairman of the House Committee on China-Nigeria Relations, Jaafaru Yakubu, praised the Chinese community for its rich cultural heritage and traditions.
He noted that the relationship between Nigeria and China has grown stronger over the years, with cooperation in trade, infrastructure, education, and technology.
According to him, China remains one of Nigeria’s largest trading partners, with the exchange of goods and services boosting economies and creating opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs.
“The presence of Chinese companies in Nigeria has led to job creation, skill transfer, and critical infrastructure development,” he said.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including representatives of the Lagos State Government, the Chairman of the House Committee on China-Nigeria Relations, former Ambassador of Nigeria to China, Ambassador Jonathan Oluwole Coker and other prominent figures.
