Sokoto gov worthy of emulation in infrastructure, agriculture, education, others, says Aliyu

National Coordinator of Network for Democracy and Good Governance of Nigeria (NEDGON), Comrade Abdul-Rahman Umar Aliyu, has said the prioritisation of agriculture, housing scheme, road network, and education among others by Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State should be emulated by all governors.
He also commended the governor for his efforts at job-creation, saying the people of the state are happy with him.
The NEDGON coordinator made the commendations in a statement.
His words: “Leadership is an act of serving the people through meeting their yearnings and aspirations.
“Democracy is a system of government from the people, by the people and for the people. That is, it is the government of the people, for the people and by the people.
Democratic leadership is therefore the act of delivering the direly needed dividends of democracy by elected leaders as well as listening to the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate.
“NEDGON is a Non Governmental and Non Political Organisation aimed at complementing good leaders’ efforts who see good democratic leadership as the priority of governance.
It’s therefore apt to call a spade a spade, NEDGON after a critical scrutiny of many leaders, especially state governors across the federation, found one worthy to emulate, to be recommended and be honoured in his bid of changing the lives standard of his people and state as a whole, who in almost all governmental sectors and in both human and infrastructural development, delivered successfully and judiciously to the best and overall interest of his people.
“The above personality and a leader in question has been known for his generosity, philanthropy and welfarism, whose loyalty, respect and regards duly earned him a position he currently holds.”
He continued: “Dr Ahmed Aliyu since his emergence as the Sokoto State Governor embarked on the infrastructural development across the state, which no doubt gave the new look to the ancient city of Sokoto.
“The provision of potable water, agriculture, housing scheme, road networks, and education at all levels, were prioritised. and is already yielding positive results.
“As a youth caring and friendly governor, all youths’ activities in the state were given better treatment and youth in Sokoto State have never had it so good like now.
“The youth have been carried along in both civil service sector and political sector, among others.
“Women were also given ample opportunities like never before and are yielding more positive democratic dividends.
“The Sokoto State indigent students have enjoyed fully a tuition for all higher Institutions across the federation and even beyond as His Excellency sees nothing as good as education.
“His Excellency, has also identified rural communities by initiating a myriad of projects and programmes that have already been put in place in almost all our rural communities across the state.
“The invaluable gestures to the state civil servants by His Excellency will never be denied, rather must be reflected in this piece to make it a standard; half a salary was enjoyed for the first time in history to all Sokoto State civil servants, and a N30,000 gift to all of them across the state during Eid-el fitr and Eid-el kabir Sallah festivities.
“In his effort to ensure jobs for all, series of training in different types of skills had been conducted and many are still ongoing under the executive care of His Excellency. Those that graduated from the training were supported with start-up capital and tools to start up their businesses and the programmes have impacted positively in many people’s lives across the state.
“The simplicity, piety and symphathy of His Excellency propelled him to consider his people for the hardship bedevilled in their daily lives by earmaking huge amount of money to purchase food items and sell them to the people at highly subsidised rates in order to alleviate their suffering.
“No doubt, time will not be enough to allow us to fully highlight all the good works and efforts of His Excellency, but will from time to time extract some of his legacies and publicise them to the world in order to let the world know the efforts of a good leader.
“In this regard, NEDGON will celebrate His Excellency as a ‘True Leader in Governance’ in this year’s Good Governance Investiture Programme.”
