BBNaija S9: Who wins
With less than 24 hours to the end of this year’s Big Brother Naija Season 9, dubbed the ‘No Loose Guard’ edition, there is no doubt the indifference Nigerians have shown.
As a matter of fact, many Nigerians believe the show has completed its life-time and outlived its imaginativeness cum vibes for viewers. Some argue that the competition this season was not with the vibes that the show is known for.
Others posit that the housemates saw their selection as a get-away holiday, as they were more relaxed and less about surviving eviction; more about the Thursday Pool Party and Saturday Gbedu (Clubbing).
The vibe among the women was more relaxed; some of the HMs were particular about ‘shipping’. A trend the show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, observed and voiced out during one of the Sunday Live shows. This made them not give their best, as it reflected in the dismal presentation of their wager tasks.
This year, the housemates, 28 in number came into the luxurious Biggie mansion in pairs as ‘dynamic duo’ but got unpaired by the mystery Big Brother, custodian of the mansion seem not to be feeling getting the needed vibes, hence switched the game to make them participate as individuals.
If the comments from regular watchers of the show are anything to go by, it would appear that even diehard fans didn’t quite “feel” the season as the housemates did not entertain enough. Many averred that the B one of the B’s in BBN might as well stand for boring.
Whether for spiritual reasons or something else, the boredom that non-watchers used to dread appears to have enveloped this edition of the show dubbed ‘No Loose Guard’. For what it’s worth, the maiden edition of Big Brother Nigeria in 2006, as it was then called, remains many Nigerians all-time favourite.
The season had show host Obi-Uchendu, actor Gideon Okeke, and eventual winner Katung Aduwak now a movie director among others as housemates. Compared to Big Brother Africa (BBA) which was all shades of naughty, the show was by far ‘cleaner.’
Many Nigerians attested to the show being a resemblance of a talent hunt show as the HMs showcased different skills from singing to dancing. According to them, what makes that edition still remain unique is the ability of the organisers to carefully craft the show and select the participants.
While the general consensus was that the housemates were well selected and matched in terms of the different temperaments/characters, many still believe the show has completed its lifespan and outlived its novelty for viewers.
