Crayon opens up on battle with depression
Popular Nigerian singer Crayon has revealed the harrowing details of his struggle with depression, which led to a psychiatric hospital admission in 2020.
In an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon said his mental health took a toll after his music releases failed to gain traction.
“I was going through a really tough time,” Crayon recalled.

“I was feeling down, and it was affecting me in ways I couldn’t control. I started acting out and behaving strangely. It was like I was losing my mind.”
The singer also disclosed an incident during a beach party. “I started acting out crazily,” he explained. “My manager noticed and asked if I had taken anything. I told him I only had weed, but I wasn’t myself.”
“I’m grateful for the people who were there for me,” Crayon said. “Rema was a pillar of strength, and Don Jazzy provided the care and support I needed. They helped me through a really tough time.”
The singer also shared his experience with suicidal thoughts, revealing that he had considered jumping out of a moving car. “It was a terrifying experience,” he said. “I was in a very dark place.”
