Fewer Sponsors, Subscriptions, Poor Social Media Buzz
The Guardian checks reveal that unlike the past editions, the ‘No Loose Guard’ edition enjoyed fewer sponsors and fewer DStv and Gotv subscribers to follow the show. Also observed is poor social media buzz – most Nigerians didn’t even know that the show is airing.
Not a single housemate palpitate their presence to the point of Nigerians knowing their name compared to other seasons where even people not closely following the show were familiar with names like Efe Ejegba (Captain Nipple), Bisola Aiyeola, T-Boss, Uti Nwachukwu, Miracle, CeeCee, Tacha, Mercy, Ike, Laycon, WhiteMoney among others.
According to a Facebook user, Oladapo Oloyede, even the worst season of Star Quest on NTA or a bad imitation of Papa Ajasco drama on an upcoming influencer’s TikTok page would have more buzz than this year’s Big Brother.
He noted that most advanced countries in the world have long jettisoned the Big Brother franchise, even South African, owners of MultiChoice, the sole organisers of the reality show in Nigeria have stopped running the show and focused on milking the lucrative Nigerian entertainment market.
He continued, “MTN project Fame and Idols made music stars like Iyanya, Chidimma, Mercy Chinwo, Chike and Omawumi. The world is rapidly evolving past the TV era and gravitating towards YouTube and social media.
People no longer care about sitting in front of a TV screen anymore to follow up on boring programs on DSTV; smartphone entertainment is where the world is now.
As the show ends tomorrow, the burning question is who among Anita, Kellyrae, Nelly, Onyeka, Ozee, Sooj, Victoria, and Wanni will be crowned the ultimate winner of the ‘No Loose Guard’ season?
