The Nigerian Film Festivals Association (NFFA) and Rwanda Film Federation (RFF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim of fostering collaborative filmmaking, encouraging cultural exchange, and promoting economic growth.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of NFFA, Uche Agbo, the objectives of the MOU include: encouraging film festival participation between Nigeria and Rwanda, and enhancing film distribution, marketing, and exhibition.

Other objectives are to develop capacity-building initiatives for filmmakers, promote tourism and economic cooperation, and co-produce films aimed at promoting African stories and cultural diversity.

Agbo also noted that the move will strengthen the African film industry, increase global visibility, create jobs, and boost economic growth.

He said, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in African cinema’s growth, as it would allow for mutual benefit between the two giant countries that are big on tourism and the creative industry.”

Also speaking, the Rwanda Film Federation (RFF) General Secretary, Dusabimana Apollos, added, “We are eager to move forward with our collaboration and look forward to the positive impact this partnership will bring to our film industries.”

The partners are expected to execute joint film productions, organise workshops and training programs, as well as film festivals and showcases.

NFFA is an umbrella body housing all film festivals within and outside Nigeria, organised by persons of Nigerian nationality.

It is a consortium of Nigerian film festivals with the aim of supporting each other, resolving conflicts among film festival conveners, and seeking solutions to the challenges confronting film festival administration in Nigeria.
