The first remedy that comes to mind is to soak up the blood with a wad of tissue paper, but this method is extremely unhygienic and will increase your chances of developing an irritation.
Shaving cuts appear when you apply a little too much force while shaving, or while shaving uneven skin or a bumpy chin.
Here are few ways to help your shaving cut stop bleeding immediately and make sure it heals fast.
- Apply pressure- this is one thing you were getting right with the tissue paper approach. As with any cut, applying pressure to the blood vessels around the area will charge them to contract and reduce blood loss. To apply pressure in a hygienic and nonirritant manner, use a clean washcloth. Run the washcloth under warm water until it is soaked, then press the wet cloth against the cut. The warm water serves as a disinfectant and discourages bacteria growth.
- Use an ice pack- if you’re looking for a quick remedy, grab a bag of peas from the freezer. The ice will cause an immediate shrinkage of the blood vessels at the bleeding site. If you’re considering an ice pack, make sure that you are done shaving. It may be difficult to resume shaving after applying an ice pack to your face. This is because the ice causes your skin’s pores to shrink and tighten, sealing the roots of your facial hair with it. Shaving after applying cold will leave you stubby.
- Apply an unscented balm- the waxiness of a lip balm will prevent any further bleeding from escaping, and seal the entrance of the wound while healing commences. This prevents infections by germs. Unscented balms are the preferred choice because of the risk of irritation to fragrances.
