A 10-man gang of kidnappers has reportedly abducted five persons, including a woman, her daughter, a visitor and two men at the Odo-Eku community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Members of vigilance groups, local hunters, and other security agencies have already been deployed to the surrounding communities in a bid to rescue the victims.

Our reporter gathered that the incident happened at midnight on Tuesday while the villagers were sleeping.

According to a villager, the bandits suddenly invaded the community, shooting sporadically into the air to create pandemonium, waking up the residents who scampered for safety.

It was during the melee that five people were kidnapped.

Sources close to the community told our correspondent on Wednesday that the bandits herded the victims away into the bush.

The incident has reportedly thrown the entire community into confusion as they make various efforts to rescue their loved ones.

One of the High Chiefs in the community, the Odofin of Odo-Eku, Elder Ogundeji, confirmed that gunmen stormed the homes of their victims overnight, abducting five people.

“The victims are Hausa farmers who live in Odo-Eku,” he explained.

“Among them are a woman, her daughter, another woman who was visiting, and two men.”

Ogundeji added that policemen had visited the scene, saying, “We showed them where it happened, and they assured us they would investigate and work to rescue the victims.”

Responding, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the Command was aware of the incident that occurred at about 0115 hours on 15/01/25 at the Odu-Eku Camp in the Odo-Eku community of Isin LGA.

“Three males and three females have been moved to an unknown location. Immediate deployment has long taken place; the Police, alongside the Vigilante, are on a rescue mission,” she assured, adding that further updates will be communicated as they unfold.
