Snoop Dogg Supports Writers Strike
At the 2023 Milken Institute Global Conference on May 3, Snoop Dogg deviated from his planned remarks to express support for striking WGA members and other artists who are not receiving their fair share of streaming revenue.
In a video address to attendees, the rapper questioned who was running the streaming industry and suggested they provide guidance on how to track the money owed to artists, as the current system does not add up.
He compared the struggles of musicians with those of striking writers, highlighting the difficulties of tracking revenue from digital streaming compared to box office or physical media sales.
Snoop Dogg further expressed frustration with the disconnect between high streaming numbers and low pay-outs, and implored business leaders to address this issue so that future artists do not have to struggle to receive fair compensation.
