Tips to stay healthy and balanced on the go
Are you a frequent traveller or perhaps a 9-5er like me? If so, you know the drill: long hours, traffic jams, and the occasional detour. While it’s exciting to explore our beautiful country by taking up jobs far from your place of residence, and of course, work and earn a living, it’s also important to maintain your health and well-being. Here are some tips to help you stay safe, fueled, and balanced on the go:

1. Fuel your inner person for the day
Every day comes with its pains, joys, and expectations. The things you say come into existence and make or mar your life and day. To fully take charge of the day, declare some positive words into the day. Charge your inner being with some words of motivation, affirmation, and encouragement. In general, be your own hype man for the day. The words, when spoken now, will do you great minutes later.
2. Fuel up
You know the situation daily. To ensure you are not caught off guard in traffic, pack healthy snacks like fruits, nuts, and boiled eggs in your bag. You can do the regular traffic snacks we know—Gala, Cheeseballs, and soft drinks or some chips and a cold drink. Greasy fast food can leave you feeling sluggish. Don’t skip lunch and eat healthy. Avoid too much sugar intake in the morning as it can spike your energy for the day while leaving you tired and wasted at night. Also, keep a water bottle handy and sip regularly. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and headaches. You don’t want to start your day feeling tired and lazy, do you?
3. Move your body
If you’re stuck in traffic, relax! It happens. Just be sure to, once in ten minutes, do some simple exercises like neck rolls, eye exercises, and ankle circles while seated. This will save your neck and ankles, as well as your eyes, from feeling weak, tired, and dim after sitting for a while. Also, maintain good posture to prevent back pain and fatigue. Importantly, make sure your seat is adjusted to the correct height and distance.
4. Stay safe and secure
If you are taking public transport to work, be sure to call the attention of the conductor or driver to close the bus door. Public transporters have a penchant for leaving the bus door open, and if you are seated by the door side, you may easily fall out. Also, if you are in the front seat, insist on using your seatbelt and occasionally warn the driver not to overspeed.
Be cautious when on public buses and take care of your belongings, especially your mobile devices, as they can easily be “fapped.” More importantly, do all the proper dressing when you get to the office. Being overly dressed can make conductors want to overcharge you for the trip. Pickpockets can also be trailing you without your notice, so ensure to blend in until you are at your office environment before dressing to suit your office dress etiquette.
Additionally, if you are driving, check your car to ensure it is fit for the day’s journey. Fasten your seatbelt and drive with care. Obey all driving signs and don’t beat traffic lights. Do I need to recite traffic light signs and meanings to you? I know you are very smart! Don’t be tempted to ‘show’ those who do not have cars by splashing them with mud in this flood season. Avoid causing noise pollution with too many unnecessary honks. Some drivers and passengers have a penchant for insulting one another, and no one really cares who’s in the wrong. Do yourself some good and avoid these types of people.

5. Add some fun to your day
What’s a day without some great music to keep the vibe up? Check the playlist of your favourite tunes to keep your spirits up. You can also enjoy educational or entertaining content, such as podcasts, to pass the time while being informed at the same time. Take a few minutes to relax and centre yourself if you sense a feeling of overload from work.
Don’t forget to enjoy your work and meet new colleagues. Don’t be too serious; wrinkles can appear even at 25. Have a fabulous day, my friend.
