What To Expect In ‘Me Time’ From Wahlberg And Kevin Hart
In the upcoming Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg Netflix comedy “Me Time,” there is a scene where Hart’s character Sonny finally has a day to himself.
He has devoted himself to being a stay-at-home parent to his two children for many years the very cute Che Tafari and Amentii Sledge.
He treats his job extremely seriously, cooking meals fit for an Instagram celebrity and taking care of the house while his wife Maya played by Regina Hall is at work. We are informed that she is a successful architect, but we’ll get to that later.
Sonny has a simple goal for his free day: He desires to golf. He wants to locate a BBQ location underground.
Additionally, he wants certain other things done in private. However, nothing proceeds as he had anticipated. Unfortunately, his lackluster experience mirrors that of seeing the film.
“Me Time” manages to waste a strong concept, an impressive cast, and an apparently endless budget. In this apparent period of a lack of comedic movies, it didn’t even need to be particularly good. However, given who was there, it ought to be much better.
The writer and director of “Me Time,” John Hamburg, who also worked on “I Love You, Man” and “Along Came Polly,” thought it was a great idea to mix a typical straight man with a quirky friend from his adolescence.
Huck is that friend in this instance (Wahlberg). Huck’s 29th birthday celebration is when we meet them.
His outrageous pastime then is BASE jumping, which gives the movie a lively and promising opening until it abruptly comes to an end. Instead of merely having Sonny back with Huck as quickly as possible, “Me Time” takes entirely too much time setting up Sonny’s home life 15 years later.
Wahlberg was obviously prepared to do it all as Huck. Despite the fact that his role never really makes real sense, he gets to play a high-rolling party animal, which has its moments.
Hart, in contrast, continues to live comfortably in his role as a slightly stressed family man. Although he is really skilled at it, we have seen it done before many times.
Even yet, it’s enjoyable to see both actors switch up their usual comedic partners. Additionally, despite the fact that the two actors appear to be enjoying themselves, the movie never really gets its footing and frenziedly jumps from one half-baked idea to another, a lot of which include someone shoving stuff down their pants.
Regarding the financial circumstances of characters in major Hollywood comedies, there is usually a certain amount of imagination involved.
It is frequently used to denote a comfortable but unflashy middle-class or upper middle-class lifestyle. It is personable, a little ambitious, and only intended to serve as background.
The wealth on display in “Me Time” is downright distracting. Perhaps it’s a reminder of a time when so many people are just trying and housing in major cities like Los Angeles is far more expensive than ever.
When a loan shark Jimmy O. Yang comes after Huck for $47,000, it seems like a lot but also isn’t enough for someone who spends thousands of dollars on a private raw bar in the desert and a tour bus wrapped in pictures of himself. Huck’s expensive lifestyle and extravagant Kardashian-like parties become somewhat of a plot point.
In addition, it is puzzling why Maya, whom her billionaire client Luis Gerardo Mendez claims to be “the best architect in the world,” resides in a generic Sherman Oaks house that appears to have been taken straight out of a 1990s sitcom. Hall undoubtedly deserved more, and Maya is only one of the many poorly developed characters at play here.
