State set to establish PWD Commission
As part of his social inclusion strategy to spread good governance to all, Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has flagged off the empowerment of 2,000 Persons With Disability (PWDs) with N20,000 each.

Delivering his address at an event held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano the governor said the empowerment programme was informed by the government’s desire to support all citizens in the state, irrespective of their physical disability, economic background or social differences.

According to him, it is with the ardent belief of his administration that PWDs take centre stage of the government and accorded proper care, rehabilitation, sense of belonging and provision of other social amenities for their benefit and that of their families.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to remain consistent in making positive plans and aspirations to make their lives better and more prosperous as the government had a lot of programmes and policies to project their lives to better living.

The Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, said “it is the responsibility of leaders at all levels to cater for the needs of their followers,” adding that what the governor did was timely in view of the current harsh economic situation in the country.

Gwarzo called on the leaders of PWD associations to unite and remain committed in serving their members, as the government is always ready to stand by them to forge ahead.

The beneficiaries were drawn from eight clusters including the visually-impaired, the crippled, the hearing-impaired and dumb, albinos, lepers and spinal cord injury patients across the 44 local councils.

The governor also assured the PWDs that his government would establish the PWD Commission in Kano to domesticate the Disabilities Act initiated by the Federal Government.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of PWDs in Kano, Musa Shaga, appreciated the governor for fulfilling his campaign promise on social inclusion by supporting PWDs.
