This season has been a drag and the Harmattan doesn’t seem to be letting up. While you are rushing to the store to get a lip balm, to save yourself from chapped lips and looking like the Ice Queen gave you a kiss, you should be careful of the ingredients you check.
If you have the time to, which you should to save yourself a trip to the hospital because of allergies. Avoid the following ingredients;
Fragrances and artificial colors can cause lip irritation.
Menthol, camphor and phenol cool anesthetize the lips, but can also dry your lips and/or produce redness and swelling.
Alcohol is also a drying ingredient which defeats the aim of moisturizing.
Salicylic acid exfoliates and relieves pain but don’t use if you’re allergic to aspirin.
Aloe butter moisturizes, heals and soothes, but can irritate lips.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant and anti-aging, but can irritate lips.
Be careful to look out for these ingredients and avoid them.
