Abia community seeks intervention in boundary dispute
The people of Okon Aku Autonomous Community, in Abia State, have called on Governors Alex Otti of Abia State and Bassey Otu of Cross River State to urgently intervene in the boundary dispute between the communities of Okon Aku and Ikun in Biase, Cross River State.
They noted that there are signs of an impending bloody clash in the boundary area. The two boundary communities are said to have had clashes that claimed lives in the past, following boundary dispute and ownership of the massive palm plantation in the area.
Speaking to newsmen in Enugu on the issue on behalf of the Okon Aku Community, a member of Nnaka’s Cabinet and Chief of Staff to Nnaka IV of Okon Aku Autonomous Community, Teddy Ekea Udensi, said their call on the two governors was necessitated by a recent resolution of Cross River State House of Assembly, demanding that the state move security agents to the area.
Udensi said: “Ikun Village, in Biase, Cross River State, a neighbouring village to Okon Aku Autonomous Community of Abia State, always runs to the Cross River State House of Assembly to cry wolf to accuse the Okon Aku Autonomous Community in Abia of encroaching into their land.”
The Cross River State House Of Assembly, without drawing the attention of the governors, the Abia State House Of Assembly and other relevant agencies to bring a lasting solution to the boundary matter, passed the motion.
“Ikun Village and in Okon Aku community are age-long neighbours. They know truthfully and very well where their forefathers told them their land ends, so is the Okon Aku Community.”
