Australia based female rights activist, Chinyere Osuwah, has urged governments to provide platforms for young females to exhibit their skills, calling for a review of school curricula to make entrepreneurial skill compulsory at secondary and tertiary levels.

Speaking in Enugu, she said: “It seems that people are complaining of lack of employment in Nigeria because everyone is focused on certificates. You obtain the certificate and queue up to take paid employment. We need to have functional education that promotes skill such that one leaves the educational institution self-reliant.

“This is what is thriving everywhere. But it is the government that needs to drive it by providing the right platforms and encouraging those interested to explore it. There are incentives you can introduce for anyone interested in learning welding work for instance that could move people into that line of trade. When you patronise their services, when you give them tax relief, when they are protected and provided with social amenities, I do not know why that person will want to leave the trade to begin to search for white collar jobs”, she added.

She asked young Nigerian girls to embrace hard work and education to be relevant and compete with their peers globally.
She stated that indulging in hard drugs and other forms of social vices would jeopardize their future

Osuwah also asked them to reduce the penchant for migrating out of the country for greener pastures, stressing that without requisite education and entrepreneurial skill, they would end up a burden for the society.
“What the society is looking for everywhere are people who can contribute positively to it. It beats my imagination at times to see young girls running away from the country in the name of greener pastures without education and necessary skills.

“There is no free lunch anywhere in the world. So, it is best, you undergo the necessary training that will enable you to become useful in any environment you may find yourself in. Over there, life is meaningless without a good education and skill,” she stressed.
