Again, gunmen kill six passengers in Taraba 

Gunmen have again killed six passengers in an ambush in Taraba State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday, has reignited apprehension among residents.

Among those in the vehicle were the Registrar of the College of Health Technology Takum, Abba Bulu, and one Mr Gambo, a non-academic staff of the institution.

Confirming the development, the council chairman, John Ali, said six persons were killed by the unidentified gunmen.

The attack, according to him, occurred yesterday morning at a village that was a few kilometres from Saa’yi in neighboring Benue State.

According to the chairman, the vehicle, which was carrying five passengers and a driver, was ambushed by the assailants while attempting to navigate a bad section of the road.

“The attackers opened fire, resulting in the death of all passengers and the driver,” he stated,

Ali said efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

He added that local authorities have been alerted and security forces instructed to retrieve the bodies.

Residents and travellers, the council chairman noted, have been advised to exercise caution, particularly when commuting early in the morning.

The incident, at the time of filing this report, has heightened tension in the area, coming a month after the murder of the traditional ruler of Chachanji town in Takum and his son.

The poor state of the highway, The Guardian observed, has made travellers vulnerable to bandits, kidnappers, and robbers.

Governor Agbu Kefas, who in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, condemned the attack, vowed to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that the masterminds are brought to justice.
