Youths under the aegis of Akure Youths Forum on Tuesday vowed to recall the lawmaker representing Akure South/North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Derin Adesida.

According to the youths who issued a one-month ultimatum to the lawmaker to present his scorecard to his constituents, the move became imperative following the alleged non-performance of the federal lawmaker since his election into office.

In a press statement issued by James Adebowale, the leader of the group, it was stated that the two local councils, which Adesida is representing, have yet to benefit from the dividends of democracy, adding that the lawmaker failed to execute or embark on projects and empower the youths and women in the area.

The youths noted that some of the projects embarked upon by former lawmakers from the area did not receive the lawmaker’s attention, saying the construction of a new town hall initiated by former lawmaker Afe Olowookere had been abandoned.

Adebowale, who stressed that during the short tenure of the late Omolafe Adedayo, Akure youths and residents were empowered, urged Adesida to present his accounts of stewardship.

He said: “It is time for Hon. Adesida to get set for his recall. We voted for him to give us good representation and not to abandon us and enrich himself, his family, and a few other people.

“We voted for him to bring the dividends of democracy down to the people at the grassroots, but he has been quiet, and there is nothing to point to his achievement in the last year.

“We have not seen or heard where our House of Representatives member empowers his people, but he has been fixing street lights in front of his loyal supporters, his family, political families, and friends’ houses.”

Adebowale, while noting that the constitution of the country empowers the people to recall any non-performing elected political office holder, said the people will soon regroup to sign his recall.

Meanwhile, an aide to the lawmaker, who described the group as faceless, disclosed that what his principal had done within the short period in the National Assembly was unprecedented.

The aide, who spoke in confidence, said, “They are a faceless group; we’ll not want to join issues with them. But what they cannot deny is that Hon. Adesida has done excellently well during his short period in the assembly.

“He won’t abandon his constituents, not for any reason; he has put smiles on the faces of the people in his constituency and would do more; they just have to be patient with him.”
