The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, confirmed the release of the immediate past Permanent Secretary (PS), Delta State Government House, Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje, from detention 14 days after he was arrested over alleged withdrawal of N87 billion from government coffer.

Gbegbaje has been in detention at the EFCC detention facility in Port Harcourt since December 13, 2024. The Guardian learnt the former PS who was released yesterday evening reportedly withdrew the money on the directives of the former Delta Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

The former Delta governor had hitherto been interrogated by EFCC for allegedly defrauding the state to the tune of more than N1.3 trillion during his eight years as governor.

When contacted, the EfCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said: “Gbegbaje was arrested on December 13, 2024 and released on January 6, 2025.”
