The criminal investigation on the alleged N440 million drug procurement fraud in Kano Stake took a fresh dimension yesterday, as Garba Musa Kwankwaso, challenged the multiple investigations against him.

The criminal investigation on the alleged N440 million drug procurement fraud in Kano Stake took a fresh dimension yesterday, as Garba Musa Kwankwaso, challenged the multiple investigations against him.

Garba, a nephew to the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, owns Novomed Pharmaceuticals, the company allegedly awarded the multi-million procurement that never existed.

The state anti-corruption commission, investigating the case, had invited Kwankwaso for questioning yesterday after admitting the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, and Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) on bail.

Kwankwaso, who was at the anti-graft agency headquarters yesterday to honour its invitation, however, insisted that he would rather remain aloof because of the multiple invites.

The invitee, who spoke through one of his lawyers, Okechukwu Nweze, who accompanied him on the trip, stated that he would be challenging the alleged criminal investigation.

Speaking with journalists after their meeting with the anti-graft operatives, Nweze disclosed that his client had received invitations from three agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC), and Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-corruption Commission on the same matter.

Although the lawyer was silent on whether his client was truly involved in the alleged procurement fraud, he, however, claimed that Kwankwaso cannot respond to three separate agencies seeking investigation on the same offence.

He stated: “Three agencies are investigating one person for the same offence. I don’t think that is allowed under our Constitution. How many times will we do so, will we do three times? So, somebody else can wake up tomorrow and invite us, and we still go?

Chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimini-Gado, said he would not react until the investigation is concluded.

The contentious contract was said to have been awarded by the Ministry of Local Government, headed by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam, without due process.
