Amotekun Corps commanders, officers hold candlelight walk to honour Akeredolu

Commandersand officers of the South-West Security Network (SWSN), known as Amotekun Corps, yesterday, held a candlelight walk to honour the late Generalisimo of the formation, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The candlelight walk saw the commanders from all five South-West states, along with their officers, gathered at Cathedral Junction in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

The commanders and officers, while chanting songs in praise of Akeredolu, embarked on a walk from Cathedral Junction to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, paying tribute to the late Generalisimo.

According to them, the gesture served as a mark of respect for Akeredolu’s enormous contributions to the establishment and success of the Amotekun Corps.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who received them at the Governor’s Office, expressed his commitment, assuring the commanders that all governors in the South-West states would uphold and support the formation initiated by Akeredolu.
He said that the security and well-being of residents in the region would never be taken for granted.

The governor, while emphasising the role played by Amotekun Corps in maintaining peace and security in South-West, assured the commanders of his unwavering dedication to preserving the progress achieved thus far. He, however, lauded his late boss for his visionary leadership in establishing Amotekun Corps and pledged to continue with the legacy.

Meanwhile, the Corps Commander, Ondo State Command, Adetunji Adeleye, who led all commanders and officers, said: “The Corps commanders of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, and myself, along with hundreds of their men, came to pay a solidarity visit to the government and good people of Ondo State on the loss of our amiable governor, who was the front leader of Amotekun Corps.”

Also, Corps Commander from Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd), noted that Amotekun Corps would continue operating, saying it has matured greatly.
He said Amotekun Corps had passed the stage, which could pose a fear that it could collapse.
