Amotekun denies attacking Tinubu’s appointee, APC chieftains in Osun

The Osun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has debunked allegations that its operatives attacked an appointee of President Bola Tinubu and other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The Executive Director of Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority, Remi Omowaiye, had narrated how he escaped an attempted assassination along the Ilesa-Osogbo expressway on Monday, in the company of other APC chieftains in the state.
Omowaiye claimed that operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were among the hoodlums who opened fire on his convoy.
This claim was corroborated by a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, Bayo Adeleke.
Debunking the allegation in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the corps, Yusuf Abass, said Amotekun did not orchestrate the actions of hoodlums, adding that the allegations are completely baseless, unfounded, and entirely false.
The statement read: “To set the record straight, the Osun Amotekun Corps categorically denies any involvement in facilitating criminal activity or attacking citizens. The allegations of Amotekun’s involvement with hoodlums or carrying out violent actions with firearms are grossly misleading and unfounded. The Amotekun personnel were simply performing their routine patrols alongside the police and other security agencies, as part of their core mission to protect the lives and properties of the people of Osun State.
“The Osun Amotekun Corps reiterates that its operations are strictly non-partisan, with no allegiance to any political party. The sole purpose of the corps is to safeguard the security and well-being of all citizens and residents of the state, irrespective of their political affiliation. The security of lives and properties in Osun is of paramount importance and is not negotiable.
“The allegations made by the APC chieftains are completely false and should not be taken seriously by the general public. The Amotekun Corps is a government-established agency that has played a crucial role in the security framework of the state since its inception.
“In light of this, the Osun Amotekun Corps calls on those spreading these harmful and false accusations to immediately cease and desist from further disseminating any misleading information.
“We remain committed to our mission of ensuring the safety and security of all the people of Osun State, as we have always done, and will continue to do so without bias or political influence.”
