APC withdraws from Anambra LG poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has officially withdrawn from the local government elections scheduled for September 28, 2024, citing concerns over electoral irregularities.
The party announced its decision on September 8, 2024, and revealed plans to challenge the election process in court.
According to the APC, the withdrawal follows alleged violations of the Electoral Act 2022 and issues with the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).
The party criticised the election preparation process, including inadequate time for candidate primaries and campaign activities.
APC State Chairman Chief Basil Ejidike condemned the handling of the election, claiming it undermines the credibility of the process.
The party’s legal adviser, Chukwunoso Chinweuba, highlighted discrepancies between the ANSIEC Law 2024 and the Electoral Act 2022 regarding election notice periods.
The APC joins other opposition parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, in seeking legal recourse.
The last local government elections in Anambra State were held in 2014, with interim caretakers managing the local councils since then.
