As the race for the prestigious Owa Obokun stool in Osun State intensifies, the Arimoro family has selected Prince Kayode Michael Adewale Arimoro as its first-line candidate for ratification by the kingmakers.

The selection process, led by a three-man committee and endorsed by the Arimoro family, also saw Prince Adesoji Joseph Arimoro emerge as the second runner-up. This development indicates that the family will present only two candidates, showcasing a strong internal consensus.

Under the established rotational system, it is currently the turn of the Bilaro Oluodo ruling house to present a candidate for the Owa Obokun throne. The dynasty is divided into four lineages: Ofokutu, Ajimoko, Arimoro, and Fajemisin.

In a recent meeting, the Bilaro dynasty instructed each lineage to submit its eligible candidate (Omo Oye) for the throne, with the Bilaro-in-Council only recognising candidates officially presented by lineage leaders.

A reliable source told The Guardian that the three-man committee screened the two candidates, with Prince Kayode Michael Arimoro securing the top spot with 84 per cent, while Prince Adesoji Joseph Arimoro garnered 70.3 per cent.

“The family decided that Prince Kayode Michael Arimoro would be its primary candidate,” the source disclosed. “However, it was agreed that Prince Adesoji Joseph Arimoro’s name would also be forwarded for consideration. The family is prepared to support either candidate who emerges through the kingmakers’ scrutiny, which will involve Ifa divination, in line with tradition.”

Amid this process, speculation has arisen that candidates vying for the Owa Obokun throne from the four ruling houses are being required to purchase intention forms at the local council for N11 million each. Observers have criticised this, describing it as exploitative and capable of reducing the esteemed Owa Obokun stool to a mere partisan contest.

Prince Kayode Michael Arimoro, or KMA, is a professional with expertise in science, cyber security, and strategic management. He is pursuing a PhD in organisational leadership at Regent University, Virginia, USA. He has multiple MBAs, including one in leadership and sustainability, and has trained at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Harvard Business School, MIT, and the University of Cumbria, UK.
