Aviation Ministry perm sec, Kana, visits NiMet

Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, visited the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on Friday, January 10, 2025.

During the visit, Prof. Charles Anosike, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, briefed Dr. Kana on the agency’s operations and its role as a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), with Prof. Anosike serving as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the WMO.

Highlighting NiMet’s contributions, Prof. Anosike stated, “We maintain strong collaborations with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Blue Economy, and other MDAs that rely on our weather forecasts for their operations.”

Dr. Kana expressed gratitude for NiMet’s role in the nation’s socio-economic development, commending the leadership and staff for their dedication. He encouraged the agency to deepen its partnerships with other government ministries and agencies.

“I will work closely with the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, to ensure NiMet receives increased government support,” Dr. Kana assured.

As part of the visit, Prof. Anosike guided Dr. Kana on a tour of NiMet’s facilities, including the newly established digital weather broadcasting studio.

The visit underscored NiMet’s commitment to enhancing its services and fostering inter-agency collaboration for national development.
