The Mayor of Calabar and Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council, Apostle James Anam, has commended the Late Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey, for laying the foundation for the sustained development of Calabar Municipality.

He made the commendation when he led a delegation from the Calabar Municipal Council on a condolence visit to the Family of the late Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey in Calabar.

Anam described the Late Etubom Ekpo Bassey, who was Chairman of the former Calabar Municipal Council between 1987 and 1989 and a veteran journalist as a great statesman who contributed a lot to the growth of Calabar Municipality and the journalism profession in the country.

He praised the family of the late former council chairman for celebrating the life and time of their patriarch, whom he noted was a gifted orator.

Anam assured the family of the late Etubom of continuous support for the family, while also promising that the Council will continue to pray for the family.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the first son, Mr. Bassey Ekpo Bassey, noted that their Late Father achieved a lot as Chairman of the former Calabar Municipal Council.

He said their late father left an unblemished record as council chairman.

He thanked the council chairman for the visit and support to the family, describing the Mayor as a remarkable leader who has always desired to serve his people.

The council chairman was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, Pastor Okon Nyong; Council Secretary, Comrade Iso Bassey Edim; the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Ekanem Henshaw; the Director, General Service and Administration, Princess Omah Bassey Edim and political appointees of the Council.

The visit featured a one-minute silence in honour of the Late Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey and the signing of the condolence register by the council chairman.
